Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE)

 

General Entry Requirements

To qualify for entry into the CAPE programme at the Division of Arts, Sciences and General Studies, an applicant must have a minimum of five (5) CSEC (CXC) General Proficiency passes (Grades I, II or III) or their equivalent including English A.

Individual subjects may have specific entry requirements that applicants MUST meet in addition to the Division’s General Entry Requirements. These requirements are detailed in the table below.

All relevant passes must be at the general proficiency.

A CAPE student is allowed to pursue a minimum of three (3) or a maximum of four (4) subjects. To pursue four subjects, a student must have attained at least seven (7) grade ones (1s) at CSEC.

There are two general education students offered to CAPE students:

  1. Communication Studies - compulsory for all first year CAPE students
  2. Caribbean Studies – optional, offered during the second year

Biology

  2. Chemistry - grade I, II or III (CSEC) or GCE equivalent

Chemistry

  1. Chemistry - grade I or II (CSEC) or GCE equivalent
  2. Mathematics - grade I, II or III (CSEC) or GCE equivalent OR
    Physics - grade I, II or III (CSEC) or GCE equivalent OR
    Biology - grade I,II or III (CSEC) or GCE equivalent

Computer Science

  1. Mathematics - grade I or II (CSEC) or GCE equivalent
  2. English A - grade I, II or III (CSEC) or GCE equivalent
  3. Information Technology - grade I or II (CSEC) or GCE equivalent

Digital Media

  • EDPM - grade I, II or III (CSEC) or GCE equivalent 
    OR

Economics

  1. Principles of Business (POB) - grade I or II (CSEC) or GCE equivalent OR

Environmental Science

  1. Any science subject taken from the following: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Integrated Science or Agricultural Science (double award) - grade I or II (CSEC) or GCE equivalent
  2. Geography - grade I or II (CSEC) or GCE equivalent

French

  1. French - grade I, II or III (CSEC) or GCE equivalent
  2. Profile in Writing at French CXC - C
  3. English A - grade I, II or III (CSEC) or GCE equivalent

Geography

  1. Geography - grade I or II (CSEC) (with “A” profile preferred) or GCE equivalent
  2. Mathematics - grade I, II or III (CSEC) or GCE equivalent

Green Engineering

  1. Mathematics - grade I or II (CSEC) or GCE equivalent
  2. one science subject (except Human and Social Biology) - grade I or II (CSEC) or GCE equivalent

History

Law
