It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the website of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Community College. I am aware that this medium is the first point of contact for many to the College and so I wish to take you on a little journey.
Many moons ago when I completed fifth form and CXC’s and O’Levels, the options thereafter were limited. You either went to the sixth form at the St. Vincent Grammar School, the Technical College or you went to work. Very few went overseas. In those days, the sixth form would only accommodate about 100 students maximum so many very good students saw their dream of further study shattered or at least bruised by this shortcoming.
In 1997, the Advanced level College was opened and created the opportunity for more students to pursue an education at this level. If we fast forward almost 20 years, we now have a full fledged Community College comprising of four Divisions: Nursing Education, Technical and Vocational Education, Teacher Education and Arts, Sciences and General Studies. With over 2000 students and a faculty of over 100, we are becoming a force to reckon with in the region. Through our varied programmes at all four Divisions, we cater for a wide range of skills and abilities displayed by our students. It is our mission to “foster the holistic development of learners through the provision of tertiary education that enables them to contribute proactively to a changing society, function effectively in the workplace and pursue further studies.”
We have not forgotten our roots, however. We are first and foremost a National Community College. National because we are a Public Institution, funded by Public Funds and answerable to the General Public of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Community because we are a family and must live, work and play like a family. Of course we will not always agree, as in any family, but we must never feel abandoned or neglected within the walls of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Community College. Whether you are a past, present or future student or staff member, may this institution always be your home away from home where you can live, love, laugh and learn. The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Community College: Where Nothing Limits Excellence.
Sincerely,
Nigel Scott
