Department of Engineering

This programme provides students with the knowledge and skills needed for the planning, layout and construction of single and multi-storey family dwelling houses, public buildings and related structures in accordance with local and regional building codes and standards. Students will be exposed to hands-on experiences to supplement the theory learned.

Entry Requirements

• A minimum of five (5) CSEC (CXC) General Proficiency passes (Grades I, II or III) or their equivalent including:

  2. Mathematics

This programme offers training in basic circuitry, interfacing and hardware installation. It is designed to prepare students for a variety of occupations in the field of electronics. Emphasis is put on both the theory and practical application of electronics engineering technology. Courses include the study of basic electronic circuitry and components, computers and microprocessors, data communication, and electronic security systems. Graduates of this programme will be able to install, maintain and troubleshoot electronic systems.

Electrical Engineers design all of our communications systems, electronic devices, computer hardware and medical equipment. This programme introduces students to various electrical and electronic devices, circuits and systems; and equips them with the knowledge and skills necessary to design, install and troubleshoot these circuits and systems. Alternative energy systems are also included to prepare skilled persons to function in this emerging field.

It integrates both theory and practical skills in the repairs and maintenance of refrigeration and air conditioning units of a domestic and commercial nature. This programme is designed to provide students with an understanding of the basic concepts, principles and terminologies used in engine systems; and emphasizes knowledge and skills needed for the servicing and repairing of various petrol/diesel engine systems in accordance with manufacturer standards. Students will be provided with hands-on experience in the use of tools and precision measuring instruments in troubleshooting and repairs.
