Overview

The SVGCC Library was established to meet the information needs of students, faculty and staff of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Community College. It came into full effect in 2005 when the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Community College Act was passed with the amalgamation of four separate colleges. The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Community College Library is made up of the Division of Nursing Education Library, Division of Technical and Vocational Education Library, Division of Teacher Education Library and Division of Arts, Science and General Studies Library. The SVGCC library uses the Alexandria Library Automation Software to manage each library's collection.

 

The SVGCC Library aims to provide users with curriculum support and research materials for use within the teaching programmes of the institution and provide instructions and assistance in the retrieval and use of its resources.

 

Opening Hours

 

SVGCC Library's opening hours are as follows:

Division of Teacher Education - 9 a.m - 7 p.m (Issue Desk closes at 6:30pm)

Division of Nursing Education - 8 a.m - 4 p.m (Issue Desk closes at 3:30pm)

Division of Technical and Vocational Education - 8 a.m - 4 p.m (Issue Desk closes at 3:30 p.m)

Division of Arts, Sciences and General Studies - 8 a.m - 7 p.m (Issue Desk closes at 6:30 pm)

Mission

The SVGCC Library will make available in an efficient and effective manner the resources which will enhance the knowledge base and research capabilities of our patrons.

Membership

Membership is open to all registered students and staff of the college. Other persons requesting the use of the library may be admitted at the discretion of the Librarian. Such persons may be permitted to borrow library materials only in exceptional circumstance. Library users are required to register for an ID card which must be used to acquire any service the library offers.

Rules

  • Users of the library are asked to keep discussions at a minimum to enable others to work without distractions.
  • Book bags, handbags, files, etc. must not be taken into the library. Users are asked to remove all monies and deposit bags into the Bag Storage area.
  • Resources may only leave the library after the material has been scanned or signed out.
  • Returned materials must be handed to library staff at the Circulation Desk at all times. Borrowers must not re-shelf books.
  • Users are responsible for damage or lost material and / or equipment borrowed and is required to pay the cost of replacement or repair.
  • Group work and discussions must be carried out in the Group study rooms (DASGS)
  • All members of the library are empowered to require users to comply with library rules.
  • Anyone responsible for serious or persistent breach of rules may have their library privileges suspended or cancelled, and may be reported to college authority for disciplinary action.

Fines

Books and other items become overdue if they are not returned to the Library by the close of the Circulation Desk on the day on which they are due. The fines for the late return of the following materials are:

Restricted Reference (RR) books - $5.00 per day or part thereof

3-day books - $2.00 per day or part thereof

Any other item - $1.00 per day or part thereof

Borrowing privileges will be suspended until the resource(s) is (are) returned and the debt is cleared.
