Notice of Closure

Please be advised that due to the approach of Tropical Storm Harvey, all divisions, offices and libraries of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Community College will be closed tomorrow, Friday 18th August 2017. We encourage everyone to take the necessary precautions and pay attention to local updates regarding this system.

Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court (ECSC) Poster Competition

The Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court's (ECSC) 50th Anniversary Committee is hosting a poster competition. Interested persons between the ages of 16 and 20 are invited to submit a poster depicting the topic "The New St. Vincent and the Grenadines Hall of Justice - An Evolution of Access to Justice."

Prizes:

  • 1st Place - Laptop
  • 2nd Place - Tablet
  • 3rd Place - Digital Camera

2017 Sir Garfield Sobers International Schools Cricket Tournament, Week 1 Update

Week One Scores

Tuesday 11th July 2017 - French Verandah SVG Community College beat Harrison College of  Barbados by 103 runs

Wednesday 12th July 2017 - French Verandah SVG Community College beat Bolton School of  England by 3 wickets

Thursday 13th July 2017 - French Verandah SVG Community College beat Combermere of Barbados by 97 runs

Friday 14th July 2017 - French Verandah SVG Community College beat the School of Nations of Guyana by 103 runs

 

Game 1 Results
The French Verandah SVG Community College got off to a winning start in the 2017 Sir Garfield Sobers International Schools Cricket Tournament, as they defeated the Harrison College of Barbados by 103 runs, at the Four Squares ground on Tuesday 11th July 2017.

Inserted to bat, the Community College got up to 228 for 6 in 32 overs at the cut off point for the first innings. Dillon Douglas stroked the tournament's third century, 107. Douglas shared a 93 runs 3rd wicket stand with Alex Samuel who got 47 and 75 for the 5th wicket with Tilron Harry who ended on 27 not out.

Micah Shephard 2 for 32 and Lijani Cherry 2 for 45 were Harrison Colleges' best bowlers.

Needing to score at over seven runs per over from the get go, Harrison College got up to 73 without loss after 16 overs, before they lost eight wickets for 52 runs as they found the going tough. Brandon Sealey scored 36 while Lijani Cherry got 31. Captain Jeremy Layne pick up 4 for 29 from 8 overs, Jerremy Haywood 2 for 26 from 7 overs and Roshorn John 1 for 19 in 8 overs.

Game 2 Results
The French Verandah SVG Community College recorded their second consecutive win in the 2017 Sir Garfield Sobers International Schools Cricket Tournament on Wednesday 12th July 2017 as they defeated the Bolton School of England by three wickets.

Bolton School called correctly at the toss and decided to bat. They recovered from 29 for 2 after 10 overs to score 202 for 7 after their allotted 40 overs. Dan Southworth 59, Kurtis Watson 53 and Joe Ball 36 batted well for Bolton School. Roshorn John 2 for 19 from 8 overs and Rayon Williams 2 for 37 also from 8 overs, were the Vincentian's best bowlers.

The Community College then replied with 204 for 7 in 38 overs. Zivon Walker 54 not out, Alex Samuel 31, Rayon Williams 29 and Randall Roberts 27 all got amongst the runs. Ben Milnes's 2 for 38 from 8 overs was the best figures for the bowlers from Bolton School.

Game 3 Results
The French Verandah SVG Community College notched up their third win in as many matches in the 2017 Sir Garfield Sobers International Schools Cricket Tournament on Thursday 13th July 2017 as they defeated Combermere of Barbados by 97 runs.

The Community College batting first fought through a difficult first ten overs at which point they were 19 without loss, to score 202 runs in their last 30, ending on 221 for 9 in their allotted 40 overs. Alex Samuel led the way with a well played 53, while Dillon Douglas 46, Urnel Thomas 38 and Rayon Williams 20 also made valuable contributions. Maxwell Lewis bagged 6 for 67 from 8 overs.

Combermere began their run chase positively and were at one point 73 for 2 in the 13th over, before good bowling from the Vincentian spinners haulted their progress. They were eventually dismissed for 124 in 28.5 overs. Thaddeus Chase 42 and Shakkae Marshall 26 were their principal scorers. Jerremy Haywood 4 for 20 from 8 overs and Dillion Douglas 3 for 23 from his 8 overs bowled well for the SVG College unit.

Game 4 Results
The French Verandah SVG Community College moved to four wins from four matches in the 2017 Sir Garfield Sobers International Schools Cricket Tournament on Friday 14th July 2017 as they defeated the School of Nations of Guyana by 103 runs.

The Community College were once again asked to bat first, and recovered from 24 for 3 to score 247 for 6 in 37 overs. Right handed Middle order batsmen Romando Browne 82 and Zivon Walker 70 not out, batted superbly, as the shared a 5th wicket stand of 118. Browne had earlier added 73 for the 4th wicket with Dillon Douglas we made 37. Right arm medium pacers Ariel Tilku and Christopher Kowsilla picked up 3 for 51 and 2 for 39 respectively, bowling for the Guyanese.

A thirty minute delay due to rain after lunch resulted in a revised target of 201 in 30 overs set for the School of Nations. They were restricted to 97 for 9 when their allotment ended. Opening batsman Mark Ramsammy was their principal scorer with 40. Jeremy Layne 4 for 12 from 6 overs and Jerremy Haywood 2 for 10 from six overs, stiffled the Guyanese batting effort.

The French Verandah SVG Community College plays game five of the tournament on Monday 17th July 2017 against St. Leonard's of Barbados.

SVGCC Cricket Team to Participate in 2017 Sir Garfield Sobers Tournament

The French Verandah SVG Community College Cricket Team will participate in the 2017 edition of the Sir Garfield Sobers International Schools Cricket Tournament to take place in Barbados from July 9th to 24th, 2017.

The sixteen man squad will be led by the SVG National Under 19 Cricket Captain and Windward Island Under 19 Selectee, Jeremy Layne, a first year student at the Division of Arts, Sciences and General Studies, pursuing Physical Education, Sociology and Communication Studies.

Ronaldo Franklyn, a former National Under 19 offspinner and a year two student at the Division of Arts, Sciences and General studies, pursuing an Associates Degree in Business Studies, will be the team's vice captain.

The unit on tour will also include SVG National Under 19 players; Urnel Thomas, Tilron Harry, Rayon Williams, Jerremy Haywood and Rayshorn John.

Alex Samuel, Romando Browne, Randall Roberts, Zivon Walker, Gregory Wyllie, Zidan Sutherland, Donte Hinson and Aleon Caesar are also members of the French Verandah SVG Community College Cricket Team. One guest player, Dillon Douglas, a Vincentian selected to the Windward Islands Under 19 cricket team, completes the squad, as part of a program between the SVG Community College and The SVG Cricket Association Inc. to give one Windward Islands Selectee who is not a member of the colleges' cricket team, an opportunity to participate in the Tournament. Othniel Lewis was given that opportunity in 2016.

The team officials for the tournament include Roxell John, Sports Coordinator at the SVG Community College, who will be the team Manager/Coach. Kody Horne will act as the team's assistant manager as part of the college's Player Developmental Program. Kashaka Bulze will complete the tour party as the team's trainer.

The French Verandah SVG Community College have been placed in Group A for the tournament and will play against the following teams in the preliminary round:

  • Tuesday 11th July - Harrison College of Barbados
  • Wednesday 12th July - Bolton School of the UK
  • Thursday 13th July - Combermere of Barbados
  • Friday 14th July - School of Nations of Guyana
  • Monday 17th July - St. Leonards of Barbados
  • Tuesday 18th July - Bryanston School of the UK
  • Thursday 20th July - Presentation College of Trinidad

This is the second consecutive year the French Verandah SVG Community College Cricket Team will participate in the tournament, having placed 5th in the sixteen team competition in 2016.

This year, twenty four teams - eighteen from the Caribbean (nine of which are from Barbados), four from England, one each from the USA and Canada - will play in three groups in the preliminary round; before the Semi Finals and Finals which are scheduled for July 21st and 23rd, 2017 respectively.
